Every year there is a thing, that is a "thing." This year it seems to be fun, backpack clip-ons. Whether it be on an actual keychain or just a carabiner clip is up to you. Either way, this is an easy DIY that is fun for afternoon downtime and could also make a great birthday party activity and take-home goody.
And the fun doesn't have to be limited to the kids, I made a few and actually love having the creative personalization on my belt bag!
Here is a plan that Chat GPT came up with to help us with this project:
| Materials to order: Caribiner clips or keychains. Carabineers are easier for little hands to clip on and could include a keychain component if you actually wanted to use for keys. Assorted beads. Look for the cook letter bubble beads on Amazon, they have a large slit and can be threaded onto ribbon! If you get smaller beads check the hole size and be sure to order beading string in the correct size. Ribbons. Whether you'll use to string beads or just tie off on your clip, ribbons are an easy way to layer color and patterns onto your clip. Charms. Amazon has lots of variety - pick a theme and search it up. |
| 5-10 min | Choose Materials: Kids pick their carabiner, key ring, beads, ribbons, charms. Lay out their decoration plan (sketch it or just plan mentally). |
| 15 min | Build Base: Attach key ring to carabiner. Thread beads, ribbons, charms on the key ring or via jump rings. Use jump rings & pliers if needed. Tie ribbon or yarn if using instead of beads. |
| 10 min | Decorate: Add finishing touches: Small charms, arrange spacing of beads/ribbons. Adjust design if needed. |
| 5 min | Finishing: Secure all items so nothing will slide off. Trim ribbon ends, make sure gemstones/beads are snug. Attach to your purse, bag or backpack! |
